Retail Area at the King Shaka
King Shaka International Airport has various retail and food outlet at the airport itself. There are a range of restaurants ranging from
Ocean Basket and Mug and Bean. On the fast food section there is Milky Lane, Kauai, BJ`s, KFC and Primi express. If you looking healthy food I would recommend Kauai as there pretty much a health fast food place.
On the retail side there is of course Standard bank, Bureu De Change as well as all the South African banks have ATMs at the airport for you convenience. Most major VISA, Master card, Maestro, American Express and Dinners club card will work in these ATMS. What really nice about the bank at the airport is its open until 22:00 most night and Sundays and public holidays.
If you need a magazine Exclusive books will take care of that for you and if you need to get you haircut there is even hairdressers at the airport which I find most convenient especially when you got to catch flight and go to a business meeting in another city. There is also electronics, arts crafts as well as various tourist information outlets at the airport.
Parking and Car Rental
The King Shaka International Airport boasts a nice parkade as well as open air parking. A word of warning the parkade is pretty price a 1 hour park will cost you close to R20 (US$3) and a day is R160 (Us$25) so don’t leave your car there to long. Rather try and catch a bus or get someone to drop you off. There is no long term parking at the Ariport but there is plenty of parking.
On the Car Rental there of course the like of AVIS, Budget,
Tempest and few other there as well. The airport is well sign posted so don’t worry you find the car hire places quite easily. Just remember baring one or 2 operators you will need a credit card to hire a car in South Africa.
Drop off and Terminals
The drop off and checking counters are located on the top level at the aiport. Most South African carriers and one or 2 international carries for know all have ticket counters at the top level. There are no retail outlets in the top level. However if you want to get you bags shrink wrapped you can do this at the top level.
Flight to and from DurbanThere are currently only 3 international flights out of Durban with the major one being daily to and from Dubai operated by
There are also 2 international flight operated by South African Airways to Maputo and Mauritius. On the Domestic there are flight on the hour to Johannesburg opertated by British Airways, SAA, Kulula, 1time and Mango. Most domestic flight stop at around 22:00 though.
King Shaka International Airport is truly a remarkable airport compared to the old Durban International boosting the latest in technology and geered toward environmentally friendly design.
