Durban North Umlanga Beach
When you head North of the
past the Bay of Plenty, you enter the durban North Coast Beach zone. The beaches become wider, but never lose the tropical paradise, which is synonymous with the beauty of the Durban coastline. Keep heading up the winding coastal stretch past Battery Beach and Country Club Beach, until you will come to an idyllic paradise, that is Umhlanga Beach. This is the midpoint of the Durban North stretch of beaches. The lively and family orientated beach is a swath of beautiful white sand. The moderate ocean temperatures are great for sea swimming, boogey boarding, surfing, bustling rock pools and tidal pools if you prefer swimming in calmer waters.
Aside from being a real happening beach, this very dynamic Umhlanga Beach is also an unofficial nudist beach. There are also wonderful activities arranged around the holiday seasons, such as beach festivals, rock concerts and the like. There are also great restaurants and shopping malls within easy walking distance..
Heading further North will take you past the Newsel-Umhloti Beach, which is simply breathtaking in its wild and wonderful beauty. A short hop away is the brand new King Shaka International Airport and a little further is the very state of the art Dube Tradeport. Further along the coast you will come across the sleepy town of Ballito, which is becoming a landmark for the discerning vacationer.
A little further on is Salt Rock, with its beautiful private estates and stunning hotels. Golfing is definitely the thing to consider when travelling this far North. If you are keen on wild life view and relaxation, then St Lucia is the place for you. The majestic wetlands and gorgeous beaches just have to be seen to be believed.
The gem would have to be Cape Vidal, which is ideal for spotting dolphins and Humpback whales, mainly in October, while you sit back and relax on the golden sands. This laid back village lifestyle is a conflux of cultures bringing both the old and new together in the same place.
The Durban North Coast is just begging to be explored and enjoyed, at your leisure. If peace and quiet is what you need then this region is just right for you. There is just so much to do you may come back again and again just to find out a little bit more.
